Even Our Skin Needs a BFF!
The BFF, best friend forever; the person we can turn to whether we need to laugh or cry. What would life be without at least one solid Bestie to rely on? We can’t even imagine. While we know what our BFF does for us, we don’t often consider that our skin may need one of their own. As professionals who see the numerous effects of aging and sun damage, we believe this to be a fact. Better yet, we have the BFF that aging skin needs.
Your Skin’s BFF: Botox, Fillers, and Fractionated Laser!
Botox
Botox is the original wrinkle-reducer; the one who started it all. We wouldn’t feel good about ourselves if we didn’t also mention the various other neuromodulators that fit into the same beauty category. Alongside Botox, patients also achieve excellent improvement with injectables like Xeomin, Dysport, and, now, Jeuveau. Where Botox provides benefits is in the area of muscle relaxation. Certain lines on the face, called dynamic wrinkles, originate from muscle movement. We get lines between the eyebrows when we squint or frown. Tiny lines form at the outer corners of the eyes when we laugh and smile. Eventually, the consistency of the same muscle movements causes these lines to become permanent. They are in the skin, but they are caused by the muscles. Botox smoothes muscles for approximately 4 months, allowing the skin to lie flat.
Fillers
Not all of the wrinkles on the face come from muscle movement. Some develop when tissue becomes loose, as it does when collagen and elastin break down. This breakdown prompts a drop in the fat pads in the cheeks. This drop leads to creases between the nose and mouth, at the corners of the lips, and it also causes sagging jowls at the sides of the face. Dermal fillers insert biocompatible substances like hyaluronic acid into the subcutaneous tissue, where acid particles bind to water. This plumps the tissue to create more volume. More volume means lines are erased.
Fractionated Laser
The skin ages in several ways. It thins. It loses firmness. It degrades under the harmful rays of the sun. Fractionated laser treatment gently resurfaces the epidermis so imperfections like spots, acne scars, and textural irregularities fade away. Slight redness and peeling can be expected for a few days. After that, the skin exhibits a rejuvenated glow.
